Snorkeling with Mobula Rays at Princess Alice Bank

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Location & Wildlife

Where do I meet the Mobula rays?

Mobula rays gather at Princess Alice Bank, a submerged seamount approximately 48 nautical miles south of Pico Island in the Atlantic Ocean. Rising from depths of around 2,500 meters, nutrient-rich upwellings create ideal conditions for large pelagic species and rays.

When is Mobula season?

The season usually begins in early June and lasts until the end of September or mid-October. In some years, warm water temperatures remain longer, and the animals stay in the area accordingly.

Which other species might be seen?

During the crossing:

• Whales and dolphins (cetaceans)
• Sea turtles
• Sharks
• Pelagic fish
• Seabirds

While snorkeling:

• Whale sharks (most commonly seen from mid-August to late September)
• Schools of tuna
• Kingfish
• Sailfish
• Marlin
• Barracuda
• True manta rays
• Open-ocean stingrays

Every trip is unique, and unexpected encounters are always possible.
